Dr. Narcisi Blends Artistry and Dentistry to Craft Custom, Natural-Looking Veneers

Dr. Edward M. Narcisi offers porcelain veneers to patients in the greater Pittsburgh area who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their smiles. Veneers can cover discolored teeth, fill in gaps between teeth, and enhance misshapen teeth.

Precise Results Based on Your Preferences We Take the Guesswork Out of Cosmetic Dentistry

Our modern smile design technology allows you to take an active role in planning your veneer treatment. We can make adjustments based on your preferences and give you the precise results you are looking for. Here’s what our collaborative process looks like:

  • We’ll digitally scan your smile and create a 3D mock-up of your results.
  • Our lab technician can preview the color of your veneers and change them to your liking.
  • In many cases, we can fabricate temporary veneers for you to try on directly.
  • Once you are completely satisfied with your mock-ups, we’ll prepare your teeth and create your permanent veneers.

How Do Porcelain Veneers Work? Understanding the Basics

Porcelain veneers are dental restorations that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth to address mild to moderate cosmetic flaws. These wafer-thin shells are custom-made from tooth-colored porcelain which mimics the translucency and light-reflecting properties of enamel. As a result, porcelain veneers look just like natural teeth.
Once they are placed, dental veneers blend in seamlessly with the surrounding teeth, providing a stunning Hollywood smile.

Not Sure If You're Ready to Commit? Bonding Can Be a Great Way to Help You Decide

As we have explained, composite veneers can't provide the same caliber of results as porcelain veneers. However, they can provide similar results, and can ultimately help you decide if you would like to eventually have a more premium upgrade.

Two big advantages of this approach are that bonding is less expensive than porcelain veneers, and it doesn't require any alteration of your tooth. So if you decide you preferred the way your smile looked before, the procedure can be easily reversed. We can even provide teeth whitening before you receive your bonding in order to get a very clear preview of what a premium smile makeover could eventually provide.

What to Expect  During Same-Day Veneers Treatment

We understand taking time away from your busy schedule is challenging, so we work hard to make treatment as convenient as possible. In fact, our office in Monroeville, PA, offers treatment in a fraction of the time as traditional methods by crafting veneers in-house. Learn what you can expect during the procedure:

We digitally design and mill beautiful, durable same-day veneers in our office.

Preparation

During your first visit, our dentist will perform an examination and prepare the tooth or teeth for treatment. We remove a small amount of enamel (less than a millimeter) so the veneers have room to lay flush with surrounding teeth.

Impressions

Once your teeth are fully prepared, our dentist will take impressions of your smile. We send these along to our expert ceramist to craft your veneers based on the specifications of each tooth.

Production

Our dentist oversees the dental veneer production with our in-house milling device. The machine precisely carves each restoration from a custom selected shade of IPS e.max porcelain. In most cases, they are ready the very same day.

Placement

When your custom dental veneers are complete, we will inspect the look and fit and make any necessary adjustments. After you and the dentist are fully satisfied, we bond them in place with special dental cement.

Recovery

Veneers involve little to no recovery time, so you can return to your normal routine almost immediately after leaving the office; however, you should wait for any anesthetic to wear off before eating.

In some cases, we might recommend that your veneers be made at a dental laboratory. We can discuss your options during your first visit.

Porcelain Veneers vs. Bonding

Dental veneers can be made of a variety of materials, but the two most common types are porcelain and composite resin (which is applied to the tooth in a process called dental bonding). Our dentist uses IPS e.max® porcelain to craft porcelain veneers, and the results have several advantages over bonding:

Looks

Composite veneers can deliver excellent aesthetic results, but this material doesn't have the same lifelike properties as porcelain. And while porcelain veneers are naturally resistant to staining, composite veneers are not. Porcelain veneers can also reflect light in the same way that natural teeth do, so they seamlessly blend in with the surrounding teeth in your mouth.

Strength

Porcelain is far stronger than composite resin. Porcelain veneers can resist the force of your bite without chipping or cracking, but composite veneers are more prone to damage. If you want to enjoy your favorite foods without worrying about harming your cosmetic work, IPS e.max porcelain veneers are likely the best choice for you.

Lifespan

Composite veneers don't keep their strength and appearance as long as porcelain veneers do. With a good oral hygiene routine and regular checkups with your dentist in Monroeville, your porcelain veneers can last 15 years or longer.

Caring for Your Porcelain Veneers

Maintaining your new smile is easy. Just follow these simple instructions to ensure your dental veneers last as long as possible:

Be Mindful of What You Chew

While IPS e.max dental veneers are notably strong, they are still vulnerable to damage when placed under extreme pressure. It is best to avoid chewing ice, hard candy, and other foods that could exert too much force on the veneers.

Practice Good Oral Hygiene

Practicing good dental hygiene is vital since veneers will not prevent tooth decay, gum disease, or other oral health problems. Continue to brush at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste and floss once a day.

Visit the Dentist Regularly

Attend biannual checkups at our Monroeville practice so we can examine your veneers and clean your teeth and gums. If we notice that it is time for a replacement, we can often provide a new veneer on the same day.
