Replace One or Both Dental Arches with Dentures

Advanced tooth loss can make it nearly impossible to eat or speak properly. It can also make you feel self-conscious and impact your ability to live your life fully. Dr. Edward Narcisi in Monroeville, PA, is passionate about providing his patients with dental solutions that improve the aesthetics and function of their smile.

To fill in the gaps in your smile and help you overcome extensive tooth loss in one or both dental arches, he can provide you with custom-made dentures. Dentures are designed to replace an entire row of teeth and can either sit on top of the gums or attach to dental implants for greater stability.

How Do Dentures Work?

Dentures are restorative prosthetics available for patients who need to replace several missing teeth or an entire dental arch. These restorations are created using high-quality, natural-looking materials including gum-colored acrylic and false teeth. Traditional dentures are placed on top of the gums and are held in place using dental adhesive and natural suction. As such, traditional dentures are removable.

Dentures can attach to dental implants for a greater degree of stability and durability than that offered by traditional dentures.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Dentures can also be anchored into the jawbone using dental implants. Many patients prefer implant-supported dentures due to the significantly greater stability they provide. As a result, this option is not only longer-lasting than traditional dentures, but also is also often much more comfortable for patients. Furthermore, because implants replace your tooth roots, they can also trigger new bone growth and halt jawbone atrophy.

In order to qualify for the treatment, however, you do need to have enough bone tissue to support the implants. If you do not, you may need a bone grafting procedure to boost your candidacy.

During your consultation, Dr. Narcisi will evaluate your oral health and help you determine which solution is best suited for you.

The Treatment Process

Typically, at least two appointments are necessary to create and place dentures. First and foremost, any preparatory work must be completed. For example, if there are any remaining teeth in the arch you wish to replace, they will need to be extracted. If you have elected to receive implant-supported dentures, you will also need to undergo dental implant surgery.

The doctor will take impressions of your gums which will be used by a trusted lab to create your custom restoration. In the meantime, you will be provided with a temporary denture. For dental implant patients, you will need to wait three to six months to completely heal.

To help you overcome extensive tooth loss in one or both dental arches, Dr. Narcisi can provide you with custom-made dentures.

Once your dentures have been fabricated, you can return to our office for placement. Dr. Narcisi will then check the fit of your new dentures to ensure that they are comfortable and stable. For implant dentures, he will need to connect your denture to your implants. When this process is complete, you will leave our office with a fully restored smile.

Financing Options

If budget constraints are preventing you from pursuing implant-supported dentures, you may consider applying for financing through CareCredit®. Dr. Narcisi urges every qualified patient to invest in dental implants as they are an investment in your oral health.
